The Practicalities involved in the measurement of Tracking

The following techniques relate to the use of modern computer assisted tracking equipment.

The following measurements should be made:

front axle

track [toe] (single [toe] and total [toe] track, related to the geometric driving axis),
Camber (on drive straight ahead or Camber zero),
wheel base disalignement, related to the left hand front wheel,
caster, king pin angle and toe difference angle (together determined in one angle of lock).

rear axle

track [toe] (single [toe] and total [toe] track, related to the vehicles longitudinal axis, fomer called axis of symmetry),
angle of driving axis,
caster (24.3).

Because of the octuble-Track [toe] gauge system (= eight sensors) the device is able to collect additional measurement values, which allow a pre-diagnose on small accident defects about approximate afforts for aligning works..

This values are :

rear wheel disalignment ,
wheel base difference,
side displacement right hand,
side displacement left hand,
wheel track difference, (width of undercarriage)
Axle disalignement.

These additional values are measured as angles; with the input of vehicle specific values, for track and wheel base the display of mm differences possible.
